After posting yesterday's review of The Venus Fixers, I found another work on the same subject: Saving DaVinci. On its cover, the piece of artwork being held by the American soldier is Da Vinci's Lady with an Ermine. "In 1939, almost immediately after the German occupation of Poland, it was seized by the Nazis and sent to the Kaiser Friedrich Museum in Berlin. In 1940 Hans Frank, the Governor General of Poland, requested that it be returned to Kraków, where it hung in his suite of offices. At the end of the Second World War it was discovered by Allied troops in Frank's country home in Bavaria. It has since returned to Poland and is once more on display at the Czartoryski Museum in Kraków." (Wikipedia)

I love it that you find these bits of historical info for us, Mary. I think you've stumbled on just the right amount for my attention span. An interesting blip that I may be able to parlay into extra points for my trivia team exploits. If the question comes up, I'll give you all the credit.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that the Olsen Twins mega-company is called Dual Star? That's the last trivia question I got right, put us over the top. In the midst of the scientists, computer geeks, and history buffs on my team, there's me, the queen of queer facts. I have my place in the universe secured.
I was a serious Trivial Pursuit player for about two years. But my sister never stopped. She has a team that plays every week, and she's the queen of the queer facts as well. Other than that they are twins and somehow involved with Heath Ledger, I know zip about the Olsen Twins. Oh, and they had a show set in San Francisco starring a hot John Stamos.
