What's Coming Up in August

First and foremost, Meredith at Austenesque Reviews is having a month-long Austen Extravaganza with tons of giveaways and posts by dozens of bloggers (me included). Secondly, I will be having my own giveaways of my titles and some other Austenesque authors. I am doing this for a selfish reason. I want a better blog, and I need for my readers/followers to tell me what they want to see on my blog.

Originally, it was my intention to publish short stories and novellas on this blog, but recently an author found that her story had been lifted in its entirety from a fan fiction site and placed on another fan fiction site passing it off as her own. Fortunately, an alert reader recognized the story and notified the author, but it does give one pause. I have decided to make my short stories available on Kindle (and Nook)  for $.99 and my novellas for $2.99. That is as low as Amazon Kindle will allow me to go in order to preserve a 70% royalty. Otherwise, they get the lion's share.

So please think about it. Do you like history? Are you interested in giveaways? Do you like games? Polls? Interactive posts? Please let me know. I really do want to have a bog where people will check in every few days to see what is going on. Thanks so much. Mary

  1. Did someone really do that to fan fiction writer? I don't know what that person might want to achieve because it is not for the money, but could it be for the fame? I would not want to see it happen to anyone so we can only pray it will not occur to any Austenesque authors that I know.

Mary, I love history especially Regency period and giveaways I expect will attract more people to visit your blog. It's up to you and I fully support your hard work.

  2. Hi Luthien, Yes, it really did happen to an author from A Happy Assembly. I think she successfully had the story taken down. It's sad, isn't it?

Thanks for your input. I am soooo glad you like history b/c that is my favorite thing to write about.

  3. I am a real fan of all things Austen or Austenesque, so I love visiting blogs like yours. What would I like to see in the blog?? Well, I also like history, like Luthien84, so everything related to the Regency period will be most welcome.
I also like blogs to include links to other related websites and funny quizzes or games about Austen and the Regency Period. You can also include from time to time contests, as for example, you can ask people what their answer to a certain question would be or something like that.
I don't know, only you can know how you want your blog to be :D But now you have two opinions :))
Thanks for providing us Austen fans some spaces to develop our passion for that period and kind of literature. Oh, and as a Kindle owner, I love the idea of purchasing Austenesque novels at such a low price. Thanks, thanks and million thanks :D

  6. Oh my! That is terrible! I am glad a reader discovered this! I am with Luthien, I love the history! I will be looking forward to purchasing The Second Date when it goes on sale. I think that is the only SS or Novella I don't have (besides Elinor and Edwards Plans for Lucy Steele. But I am not a big fan of S&S). I do enjoy your blog, Mary and look forward to your upcoming posts!

  8. I just think that is so sad that someone would do that. There are alot of similarities out there...after you read some others start sounding alike. But to just lift it in entirety is horrible. I have no creativity so that's why I rely on the writers to give me what I don't think of myself. a new or alternate way to look at things. I'm so glad you made us aware of this. I don't do quizzes so much anymore. I've found even the ones at austen authors just take too much of my thinking ability and time. But all the rest of the comments I agree with.
