Jane Fests in Louisville & Central Valley, CA

SAVE THE DATE today for the 4th Annual Jane Austen Festival, July 9 & 10 at Historic Locust Grove in Louisville, KY sponsored by the Greater Louisville Region of the Jane Austen Society (http://www.jasnalouisville.com/). It's a wonderful event, please come :)

The Jane Austen Festival which takes place in July has been a terrific event to draw attention to our favorite author and our Region. Each year the festival features an Austen author, a Regency style show, a Regency Emporium, Afternoon Tea, as well as classes and the Jane Austen Ball.


Anyone interested in Jane Austen, her books, the movies, Regency life are welcome and encouraged to join. Membership begins with www.jasna.org. To become a member of the Jane Austen Society of North America you must join the national organization as well as the local Region.

The Keynote Speaker is Dr. Amy Smith, Associate Professor of English at the University of the Pacific in Stockton. Additional speakers include Kristen Akina, Fresno State British Literature graduate whose thesis was on Austen and sister-relationships within her novels, and professional costumer and teacher Jennifer Rosbrugh of HistoricalSewing.com discussing fashion in the Regency. Jennifer Rosbrugh will also be teaching a reticule sewing workshop. The other workshop slated is Regency Country Dancing, the class taught by choreographer and dance caller Alan Winston. Musicians from the Bay Area Country Dance Society will join Alan for the Regency Ball.

  1. Mary, Do you go to the Fests? How cool would it be to learn, or attempt to learn for me, how to country dance?! I've never seen any of the period clothing either up close either.

    Even writing this makes me realize how dependent readers are upon writers to paint the picture in our heads.

  2. I haven't gone to any, but several Austen Authors are going to the one in Fresno. I will be (should be) at the JASNA meeting in Fort Worth in October. It's just straight down I-35 for you. Right?
