  1. Again, very nice story. First thing that sticks out: You have sent Darcy away to stay with Sir. Edward, and then you also have Georgianna and Elizabeth stay there for a night on their way to Pemberley. How is it that they don't meet?

Secondly: I this just a condensed/abridged version of a larger work? A lot of it could use more detail, but maybe I am just not understanding what I am reading here.

Lastly: I wish you would get rid of the mistress altogether. I hold Darcy up to such high standards that it always bothers me to think of him with a mistress, especially a married woman. How can Elizabeth love a man with a mistress?

Otherwise, I am enjoying the story very much and looking forward to the next chapters.

  3. Hi Jeanette,To answer your questions, Georgiana went ahead of her brother so that Lizzy and she might be at Pemberley without him. This is a short story, so much less detail b/c I assume everyone knows the basic P&P story.

Darcy stopped seeing the mistress as soon as he met Elizabeth, causing specualation that he had fallen in love with someone in the country. Mrs. Conway is a widow. In my mind, Darcy is in his late 20s. I think it's reasonable (from my POV) that a man of that age would have had sexual relations with a woman, but there are many who disagree with me. Thanks for commenting.

  4. I'm just one of those readers who likes her Austen heroes to be virginal, I guess! :) I read an Austen sequel where Wentworth was visiting ladies of "negotiable affections", and it put me off because I keep these men on a pedestal, I suppose. I had forgotten that Darcy was involved with a widow.

I did think that both Darcy and Georgianna were visiting Sir Edward, and was surprised to read that Georgianna had accompanied Elizabeth from Netherfield. That's what happens when you read a short story over a course of a week. I'll have to go back and read the beginning. It was just confusing that they both visited Sir Edward.

As for adding more detail, it would have been fun to hear what Sir Edward had to say about Darcy. I'm looking forward to the next installments.

  5. Jeanette, My hats off to anyone who reads WIPs. I can't do it. I lose track of what's going on. :)

  6. I always re-read the previous chapter before I start a new set of chapters. I like this story, so I will go back and read all of it again, maybe this weekend. :)
