  2. From Susan S: Here's my list in order of favorites: 1) Pride and Prejudice; 2) Persuasion; 3) Northanger Abbey; 4) Sense and Sensibility; 5) Mansfield Park and Emma are tied for last of completed novels. And of course The Watsons; Sandition and Lady Susan I'm unsure if I really liked them. I love Anne Eliot however and feel she's a great heroine as well as Fanny Price. I just read your short story about the fans and I loved it. It gave me quite a chuckle. I love your book also. I checked it out from the library. Now I just have to purchase more books. Thanks again!

  4. Here is my list, Mary. I hope you don't mind me having a go for a bit of fun. All from a male point of view, of course.

Persuasion first, because I love the Dorset coast and Lyme Regis is a fantastic place to visit. Emma second because it's about where I live, Surrey, and Box Hill isn't far away. Northanger Abbey could be in any of my top three really. It's so Gothic and amusing. Sense & Sensibility, has so many London Scenes in it and I've walked down some of the streets mentioned. Also I like the contrast between the emotions of the sisters. Pride and Prejudice is a lot of peoples favourite but Colin Firth doesn't do anything for me. SORRY!!!!
Mansfield Park. Oh well, last, because Fanny Price needs a bit of umph!!! I like my women with a bit of umph!!!!!!

    All the best, Tony

PS Please don't take me too seriously in some of my comments. It's a blokish thing.

  5. Tony, You have a very interesting list, and I agree 100% that Fanny Price needed umph, and a personality, to my mind. Thanks to all who entered.

  13. Except for Tony, everyone's favorite Austen novel (so far) is P&P, which I'm sure surprises no one. Persuasion is a solid second. Four more days to go.

  16. From Lisa S: Saw your post over at AHA (hint, hint). Thank you so much for honoring Mother's Day in such a lovely way...

The list is actually harder than I thought (mostly it's those pesky middle ones to sort out. Here it goes...

    1. P&P (well, because it's awesome - 'nough said)
    2. Emma (because it's the first Austen novel I ever read when I was oh so little and loved it, loved it, loved it till I read more Austen)
    3. Persuasion (OMG, does a letter get any better than that?? Seriously!! I almost put this one second but I have to keep Emma up there for introducing me to Austen in the first place)
    4. Northanger Abbey (because it's funny and sweet)
    5. Sense & Sensibility (I like it well enough but Edward and Marianne get on my nerves!)
6 Mansfield Park (Fanny just doesn't do it for me, and neither does Edmund!)

  17. Lisa, You and I have similar thoughts on Austen's works. However, once I had teenagers, Emma slid down the list b/c I had enough of "the world revolves around me" for several years. I like NA. I only wish I had read it as a teenager, instead of in my late forties.

  20. This is quite difficult for me because I read all the Jane Austen books so long ago and haven't re-read them lately.

Now it is the movies that affect my choices more than the actual written word.

On the other hand I have ordered (but not yet read) a few of the recent mash-ups and it is quite possible that, that will change my mind again.

    Oh dear.

    My list:

    1. Sense and Sensibility
    2. Mansfield Park
    3. Pride and Prejudice
    4. Northanger Abbey
    5. Emma
    6. Persuasion

  21. Hi Carol, I know what you mean about the movies affecting your choices. I loved Emma Thompson's S&S, which moved that book up my list. Ditto on Northanger Abbey and Gwyneth Paltrow's Emma. However, nothing can save MP for me. Thanks for participating.

  23. Hmm, it's hard to list them in order of preference... I probably love P&P, Emma, and Northanger Abbey best. But Persuasion and S&S are amazing as well. I guess the only one I did not completely love was Mansfield Park. :(

I am Scimommy at AHA, so please PM me there if I win. ;)
